Strong Women with Maya Laylor

Clance: Hey mama, we good?

Maya: I’m good. How are you?

Clance: I’m good. This is just about your experience being a strong woman, what is it like training the focus. So we’re just going to have some questions and just answer how you feel. Okay? Just be you. Alright.

What is it like training in a sport where you have to be a strong woman?

Maya: I really like it. I enjoy being a strong woman. I was raised by strong women, so I’m used to it. It’s great. I love being strong. I love being athletic. Being able to lift a lot of weight. I always wanted to be in a sport when I was younger. I never envisioned myself not being strong. I always knew I was going to be a strong woman.

Clance: Do you remember when you first started, you just wanted to work out to look good?

Maya: Yeah. I just wanted to train to feel good and look good because I noticed in school, I took a picture, like a class and I noticed I was a little chubby and I was like, oh, I don’t like that. So immediately after I started working out, I started asking you for workouts and stuff.

Clance: And then it started from there. One kettlebell. I remember the pink kettlebell, what was it? Six or eight pounds?

Now is like, what’s your best Clean and Jerk over your head?

Maya: 130 kilos.

Clance: Love it. Okay.
