Elite and professional soccer players whether you are a goalkeeper, midfielder, defence or attackers incorporate 4 gym sessions per week in the off-season and 1-2 during the season.

For youth athletes under 12, we recommend at least 2 sessions per week for optimal development.

No matter your level – high school, college, or even in Major League Soccer (MLS) – having proper workouts to strengthen your game will increase your chance of becoming a professional player.

Prepare for intense, focused training sessions designed to elevate your performance on the pitch.  Most sessions in our soccer strength and conditioning protocols last around 90 minutes, with a minimum of 60 minutes dedicated to developing the strength, speed, power, coordination, and durability essential for soccer.

Our trusted strength & performance coaches guide you through every step, progressively incorporating speed drills to enhance your explosiveness, acceleration, and agility on the field.

Kids can safely start soccer fitness training, including weight and resistance training, as young as 6 years old. Contrary to popular belief, weightlifting doesn’t stunt growth. Kids must be carefully supervised with appropriate weight loads and gradual progression to promote bone density and reduce the risk of common soccer injuries.

It’s important to ensure young athletes receive proper instruction and guidance from performance specialists throughout their training.

Our primary recommendation is to train at our North York facility (125 Martin Ross Avenue), where you’ll have access to specialized equipment and the guidance of our certified soccer strength and conditioning coaches.

However, we recognize that in-person training isn’t always possible.  That’s why we offer flexible online coaching and hybrid options to ensure you can still achieve your soccer fitness goals, regardless of your location.  Whether you prefer independent training with online support or need more hands-on guidance, we have a plan to suit your needs.

The best strength training exercises for soccer players vary depending on their age and level.

  • Young players (under 12): Focus on bodyweight exercises like split squats, lunges, chin-ups, and push-ups to build a strong foundation. Medicine ball training can also be incorporated to develop rotational strength.
  • Older/Elite players (high school, college, pro): Incorporate more advanced strength training with barbells and other equipment. Focus on developing explosive power, rotational strength, and maximal strength to improve speed, cognitive ability, and resilience on the field.

It’s important to avoid too much slow moving exercises like the deadlift, unilateral work like single-leg squats, as these can hinder speed and agility training.  It’s also important to monitor a players’ fatigue level when performing complex and dynamic sequences.

Prioritize protocols that promote high-speed coordination, functional strength, mobility, and strength endurance.

We focus on both lower and upper body strength for soccer players.

A strong lower body is essential for generating power and speed on the field. We prioritize work that develop the glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, and calves, as well as improve core stability.

However, upper body strength is equally important.  Strong arms and shoulders contribute to speed, balance, and overall athleticism.  We incorporate plans to develop the chest, back, triceps, and biceps to ensure well-rounded strength and power.

Our training philosophy emphasizes a holistic approach, recognizing that all parts of the body work together to achieve optimal performance in soccer.

To maximize your potential on the soccer field, players and teams must aim for an off-season training period of 12-16 weeks.  This dedicated time allows for focused development in areas like strength, speed, and conditioning, which are often neglected during the competitive season.

By prioritizing foundational training in the off-season, you’ll be better prepared to excel when games resume.  Remember that a balanced approach is key to deal with the demands of the sport, including on-field skills, tactical development, and mental fortitude.

While strength training is a valuable component of soccer development, it’s not the sole factor in becoming a great player. Strength training enhances both physical and mental abilities, leading to improved speed, power, and endurance on the field.

However, it’s crucial to continue developing your soccer skills, tactical awareness (soccer IQ), and mental fortitude alongside your strength training.  A well-rounded approach that addresses all aspects of the game will ultimately contribute to becoming a champion.

A common challenge in soccer training is the underestimation of the off-season.  Many players and families get caught up in the constant cycle of games, camps, and tournaments, neglecting the crucial period dedicated to physical development.

The off-season is the ideal time to build a strong foundation, improve athleticism, and address any weaknesses.  Prioritizing off-season training can significantly enhance a player’s performance and reduce their risk of injury.

Workouts translate to improved soccer performance by building the foundational physical attributes needed to excel in the game. Strength training, particularly exercises like squats, enhances your “starting power” – the ability to accelerate quickly and overcome inertia. This translates to faster sprints and quicker reactions on the field.

Similarly, developing leg strength contributes to overall speed and agility. However, it’s important to remember that physical abilities must be applied within the context of the game.

This means combining your strength and power with skills, tactical awareness, and decision-making to truly enhance your performance on the soccer field.

We believe in a holistic approach to athletic development, recognizing that nutrition plays a crucial role in achieving peak performance.  Our packages offers optional customized nutrition plans tailored to your individual needs and goals as a soccer player.  These plans provide guidance on what to eat, when to eat, and how to fuel your body for optimal performance on the field.

In addition to personalized nutrition plans, we also incorporate weekly body composition scans. These scans provide valuable data on your body fat percentage, muscle mass, and other metrics, allowing us to track your progress and make adjustments to your training and nutrition plan as needed.  This data-driven approach ensures that you’re optimizing your body composition to meet the specific physical demands of soccer and maximize your athletic potential.
