Joel Ward jumps on board The Laylor Performance Paleo Plan, as part of his offseason training program and he sees results – fast!
A discussion with Clance Laylor, Joel Ward and LPS’s partnering Chef, Amy Stoddart of Say-She-Ate about Joel’s Paleo Plan and why it works so well.
Clance:
When Joel came to me, he was really struggling with nutrition. To put it bluntly, his nutrition was terrible, (laugh)…I would even give it my self-invented label “nutrocious”!
Joel:
Yeah, (laugh) Clance is right on that one. I was really struggling with being consistent. And when I was trying to eat in the style that Clance recommends, the Paleo style, I was having real problems with variety. I was just eating the same thing over and over.
Clance:
That’s where Amy came in to help Joel with his meals.
Amy:
What Joel needed the most was to have amazing meals readily available to him. That way, whether he was jumping out of bed in the morning to start the day, or coming home from a hard workout with Clance, no matter what, he could open his fridge and right there would be all the nutritious meals he needed to complement his training program.
We talked about his likes and dislikes – no mushrooms or tomatoes – right Joel? (laugh). We talked about his busy schedule and how important variety was to him. From there it was simple, we created a dynamite menu of proteins, sides and snacks that I would cook for him each week and he could enjoy in any combination he liked. This way, it was just regimented enough for him to get the results he needed, but was also free to mix and match the dishes depending on what he felt like eating.
Joel:
Yeah, the food was great. I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t just bland, like you were just chomping it down. Instead, it was really flavourful. I had full variety from Brazilian chicken to jerk pork…and that trailmix…oh, man…that was good!
Clance:
And the results came fast.
Joel:
Yeah, health-wise, I really trimmed body fat. Even my brother just commented on how much he can notice the change. Before the plan, I thought I knew how to eat healthy. But I’ve realized, I didn’t really know what a carb was or the good from the bad. I thought I knew the basics, but now I really know what to stay away from and how to cut down on body fat. Eating healthier is so much easier now that I’ve seen what to eat because I’ve had it all laid out for me. I make better decisions now, even when I go out. My energy levels are up, and I just feel better all around from eating proper food.
