At what age do you see a decline in physical performance in athletes?

In my experience, I’ve seen a decline for performance in athletes; females, they actually peak later, so 25 to 28, some to 30. Males, they peak a little earlier. So physical decline for males, I would say can start from about 28 years old, where the females are actually peaking at around 28 years old.

I think this goes back and I feel, and based on my experience, it goes back to your training. If you are training appropriately, paying attention to your sleep, paying attention to wear-and-tear in your body, good sleep habits, good nutritional habits, you see some athletes post-30 take off. So there are a lot of cases where I’ve seen athletes take off because they take care of their bodies. If you’re a high-performance race car, look at your body as a high-performance race car, put the optimal fuel in your body and pay attention to sleep and recovery.

So if you’re partying a lot, staying out late a lot drinking, and whatever it may have you, your decline is going to happen much faster because of the wear-and-tear. Obviously, it depends on also the sport.

For me, I’ve seen athletes after the age of 28 take off because what happens normally they click in and say, you know what, I have to pay attention to the things outside the gym, such as nutrition, supplementation, going to bed on time, sleeping in what we call a bat cave, so you can get a deep REM of sleep and doing their appropriate training to potentiate or to increase the longevity of your career.

In the standards, males start to decline after the age 28, where females from the age of 25 to 28 actually start to peak. I believe that question, it all depends on what you’re doing in the gym and outside the gym to have a long career.

For instance, Tom Brady is a perfect example, takes good care of his body, nutrition, sleep, and so on and so forth. So it depends on the wear-and-tear, it’s a big factor in terms of decline. I’ve seen athletes take off after the age of 30. So again, it just goes back to those key factors.
