LPS Athletic vs. The Lab

The Lab vs. LPS Athletic: Return to Play, or Return to Dominate?

In the West GTA, The Lab – Movement & Sports Medicine has built a strong reputation for sports injury care. With a sports medicine physician, physiotherapy, chiropractic, osteopathy and concussion management under one roof, it’s a respected choice for athletes recovering from injury or surgery.

Both The Lab and LPS Athletic care about athletes performing at their best. But one is built clinic-first and the other is built performance-first.

If you are a serious athlete or the parent of a rising star, choosing the right environment isn’t just about the equipment. It’s about the Methodology. Here is how we compare.

The Philosophical Divide: Recovery vs. Dominance

The Lab Approach: Clinic-First Sports Medicine

The Lab specializes in the assessment, treatment and prevention of sport injuries, with evidence-based care to help you “move better, feel better and perform better.”

  • Focus: Injury management, post-surgical rehab, sports medicine (including ultrasound-guided injections such as PRP) and physiotherapist-assisted training.
  • Best For: Athletes who are injured, coming off surgery or need medical clearance to return to sport.

The LPS Athletic Approach: The Pro Maker™

Founded by Master Coach Clance Laylor (1 in 4 in Canada), LPS Athletic is built on the Athlete Activation System. We don’t just “train” you; we Remap you. Every program starts with a Remapping™ Assessment, every rep is coached, and we test athletes often in our training app so you can track your progress every week. We’re also the authors of the #1 Amazon International Best Sellers in Sports Training, Exercise & Fitness.

  • Focus: Neuromuscular dominance, explosive power, structural rebalancing and injury prevention.
  • Best For: Healthy, driven athletes who want to be the strongest, fastest and most explosive player on the field, court, course or ice.

Real Transformations: Building Pros From Scratch

Getting healthy is the starting line. LPS specializes in what comes next: taking athletes further than they’ve ever been.

The Wayne Moore Story: Back From a Torn Labrum, Stronger Than Before

Wayne trained at LPS for about six years on his way to the CFL. He was drafted into the CFL out of McMaster in 2016, then tore the labrum in his shoulder in his first year. After surgery and rehab at McMaster, he came back to LPS to finish the job.

“I feel now that my shoulder’s even stronger than it was before, so I feel like it never happened.” — Wayne Moore

The LPS Difference: Rehab got Wayne healthy. Back at LPS, we rebuilt his range of motion and strength until the shoulder was stronger than before the injury. Along the way he went from about 195 lb to 215 lb, with big gains in speed and power.

The Max Li Story: Driving Distance as a Weapon

Before LPS, Max had no gym to train his speed and relied on speed sticks. He started at LPS with a clubhead speed of 103 mph. Over a few off-seasons of training with us he has raised it to 132 mph, and at 15 he has made Team Ontario. He also placed first in his age group on the Golfweek Junior Tour in Ohio.

“My strongest point in my game is definitely the driver ever since I came to LPS.” — Max Li

The LPS Difference: We train speed the way we train every athlete: assessment-driven strength and power work, coached every rep. Now Max plays many holes driver-wedge.

The P.K. Subban Story: Fixing the Structure, Not Just the Symptoms

P.K. didn’t arrive at LPS as a finished product. He came in as a teenager with shoulder issues, wrist issues and a weak lower back, plus 19%+ body fat and structural imbalances that were capping his potential.

“It’s probably made the biggest difference in my career.” — P.K. Subban

The LPS Difference: We didn’t just manage his aches. We committed to a 3-year structural rebuild, fixed his VMO and hamstrings and remapped his nervous system for elite-level output. That foundation helped give him the 2nd hardest slap shot in the NHL and a Norris Trophy.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • You want a high-stakes, competitive environment where every rep is coached by elite coaches.
  • You’re driven to earn a scholarship, a national team spot or a pro contract.
