The LPS Weightlifting Team was back in action at the 2016 Ontario Winterlift in Toronto this month. This most recent competition saw Maya Laylor continue to dominate in Ontario. En route to claiming a gold medal in the 75kg weight class, Maya set 4 Senior Ontario Records: two in the clean & jerk and two in the total. Maya finished the day with a 92kg (203lbs) snatch, 115kg (253lbs) clean & jerk and 207kg (456lbs) total.
Mark “Mighty Mouse” Bui is starting to leave his mark on the competition in Ontario. Winning gold in the 62kg (137lbs) weight class, Mark added to his medal count this season. His 90kg (198lbs) snatch, 115kg (253lbs) clean & jerk, and 205kg (451lbs) total was good enough to qualify him for the Canadian National Championships, giving him the choice to compete at 62kg or 56kg this spring in BC.
Rookie lifter Daniel Moylan rounded out the LPS team at Winterlift. In his pursuit to qualify for the Senior Ontario Championships, Daniel hit an impressive 115kg (253lbs) snatch for a big competition Personal Best and a tie for best snatch in the 94kg weight class. However, he was unable to convert his 135kg (297lbs) clean & jerk attempt. Unfortunately, this meant no podium finish for the 1st year lifter and he will have to wait until March for his next shot at qualifying.
A special congratulations goes out to LPS Weightlifting Masters competitor Tyson Staples who won gold at the Ontario Masters Championships in St. Thomas, ON this past weekend! Tyson collected his first provincial title with a 95kg (209lbs) snatch, 115kg (253lbs) clean & jerk, and 210kg (462lbs) total.
Congratulations to all who competed and represented LPS Weightlifting with pride! We are setting a new standard of performance in Ontario and the country! Look out for the results from the Sabaria Last Chance Qualifier next month!
