Robert Beer, Sports Psychologist
My passion for helping athletes has been sparked from my own struggle to overcome adversity and mental restriction.
I was born in Romania and moved to Canada when I was 8 years old. At the age of 12 I fell in love with the sport of tennis. I worked extremely hard and competed to the best of my ability, whilst struggling with anxiety, poor self image, negative self-talk, and a lack of confidence among many other issues.
Due to my hard work and determination I managed to receive a scholarship to the United States where I had the pleasure of playing Division 2 tennis. Throughout my university career I finished with the second highest winning record and the second most wins ever recorded by the university.
I proceeded to graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Roberts Wesleyan College. My success furthered my tennis career, as I proceeded to play on the Future Tour as a full time competitor. While doing so, I encountered numerous psychological issues that did not allow me to perform at my optimal level time and time again. Although this 8-month experience was emotionally draining and exhausting, it did however spark my love and passion for sport psychology.
Through my experience, I have made it my life’s mission to help athletes avoid experiencing the same psychological struggles I encountered. Due to my personal experience I opted to complete my Masters Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Portsmouth.
As the founder of Mindset First, I help athlete’s reach peak performance levels through developing mental skills specific to each individual’s needs. Each session is tailored to each individual, specific to the sport or activity which they partake in, and to their unique struggles.
